Our Sustainability Practices Continue

In 2024, sustainability is just good modern business, but for me, it’s been a lifelong priority. I learned good habits from my Austrian mom. She grew up composting, and separating plastics, paper, and “Restmul” (the rest of the trash) since the 1950’s in Koflach, Austria and in Zurich, Switzerland in the 1980’s.

As a business owner in Breckenridge, I have incorporated my values into our practices so much that our local High Country Conservation Center has named us a “Gold Level” Sustainable Business. How do we keep Chopping Block Salon green?

Here are a few examples…

Transportation

Breckenridge Free Ride Bus stops right outside our doors at Ridge St / Lincoln St, and Ridge St / Washington St. Purple Route A and B both stop here.

  • We encourage walking, carpooling, and public transportation for our employees and clients.

  • Replace paper towels with rags and wash cloths.

  • Plastic-free dissolving laundry detergent sheets

  • We have never offered plastic water bottles. Instead we have a filter on our tap to refill glasses and bottles, and we offer canned beverages, which we recycle when empty.

Products

The display lights, bottles, and ingredients are all designed with the earth in mind.

Water

Instead of plastic, we have recyclable cans and filtered tap water.

  • Wool dryer balls instead of chemical dryer sheets.

  • Working with TerraCycle and GLO companies to recycle salon waste like foils, hair clippings, gloves, cellophane, and color tubes.

  • Using local resources to recycle paper, plastic, and glass.

  • Energy-efficient LED lights illuminate our Kevin Murphy and Davines displays. The products we carry practice sustainability, with clean ingredients and bottles made of ocean waste plastic.

  • We offer Davines Color-Safe zero-plastic Shampoo Bars, and all our product brands use post-consumer recycled plastic, aluminum, and paper packaging.

  • Efficient water dispensing at the shampoo basins with ECO-Heads, filtering shower heads.

Have you switched to green habits in your home?

See you in the salon,
