Kash 4 Kayla: October Update
Kayla, 15-year old daughter of our own stylist, Joni Uhelsky, is fighting her third battle against Leukemia. Joni and her family have moved to New York to be closer to family support and to seek advanced medical care for Kayla. They are incurring a huge financial burden, so in September, we asked the Breckenridge community to band together and help.
BCB Salon hosted a fundraiser, Kash 4 Kayla, on September 10, 2018. We offered haircuts, blowouts, shellac manicures, and 30-minute massages for a donation. The community responded in a BIG way: we booked 60 appointments and had people stopping by, just to donate, all day long. We are thrilled to announce that we raised over $3,400, which supported moving costs, homeschooling for Kayla, and medical treatment.
As of the end of October, Kayla is receiving treatment and is battling on. She is currently receiving chemotherapy in preparation for a stem cell transplant. A donor match was found for Kayla, so hopefully she will be receiving her transplant in the next two weeks. If all goes well, it should take about a year for Kayla to rebuild her immune system and recover. Joni, Kayla and all the salon staff greatly appreciate the outpouring of support from the Breckenridge community!
Extra thanks to our wonderful sponsors for helping us host a huge event and help us raise money for Kayla:
