Melanie Dunn
Salon Owner, Stylist
After one too many embarrassing public school moments in 1999, Melanie decided that if she could be “pretty” then she could be accepted, and began a mission to learn the art of beauty.
After she consumed every tip from American Girl Doll books and Seventeen Magazine, Melanie decided to take high school cosmetology and fashion design classes in Virginia, along with frequent inspiring trips to New York City.
She got her cosmetology license in 2005 and figured out how to be “pretty” for others.
To keep up with ever-changing trends, (zebra highlights were IT in 2005) Melanie has continued to enjoy annual hands-on expert workshops.
Hair services are only a piece of what makes us feel beautiful. Melanie continues to learn about beauty through her own mental health journey, discovering why it feels so important to her.
Our hair is part of our self expression. We all want to be seen and accepted, and showing up authentically is the only way to be truly accepted. Otherwise we are only accepted for our pretense, which can be alienating. This knowledge is the difference between being “pretty” for others or beautifully expressing ourselves.
Melanie helps you understand what your hair is saying, and how to adjust it to a more true self expression.
Are you worried your look is outdated? Melanie will be real with you, and give you easy styling tips to keep expressing who you are today. Bored but not sure what to do? Melanie will give you ideas. Have a bad idea? Melanie will dig into the origin of your idea to figure out what to do.
During off seasons, Melanie explores new countries and cultures, and revisits her Mother’s roots in Switzerland and Austria.
During work days, you might find Melanie in the salon mentoring other stylists or working with her own clients.
